All I can say is you are very nice and generous to spend your time like this teaching all these youtube people how to play. I went from knowing not a single thing, to more than I thought I could learn in months! But I do watch the videos 2-3 times, and take notes as I was being taught face to face, I literally write down everything you show us, and say or explain. its impressive how fast i learned just because i had fun playing piano :) im a painter and i also do sports and i knew the "learning process" and used it on the piano. after 1 month im able to play with both hands almost the song? i hear in my mind^^ well before i played on the piano i "doodled" on my smartphone piano app :)

Tell your mother to read these comments. You my be too old to become bethoven, but you have a really good age to start learning the piano.? Not learning an instrument is one of the things you'll regret the most when start getting old, and I know the feeling because I'm 35 and i wish I could go back in time to start taking lessons when I was younger. Lots of people believe that you have to start early. Although its certainly better to start early because you pick things up a lot quicker? when young, there is absolutely no reason why you cant learn later. I started at 57 and having a lot of fun...and its all about loving what you do.

Wow, 2-3 hours a day and you'll be a monster on the keys. The "Add9" is kind of a misnomer - the 9 assumes that the 7th is present. If the 7th isn't there, it's actually an "Add2". Kind of a weird music theory rule. As to how the 9th sounds w/the 7th -? it's just a personal preference. You might try checking out some different voicings - that can change the whole character of the chord. Best wishes! David Sprunger

This might help. I started learning the keyboard (using a church organ then, a piano) with barely 10-15 minutes, 3x a wk & occasionally, I'd have about an? hour on wk-ends. Age 15. At age 18, I had an average of 30minutes 4days/wk, & an hour on wk-ends. And, no teacher. I observed: tv, listened to radio, watched pianists, read books. But, every moment w/ the instrument was just an opportunity to become more expressive. It wasn't ever work to me. I had no personal keyboard/piano.

Yes, please do. It is best to use a keyboard with weighted keys, but if you don't have that yet, just do the lessons, learn, practice, repeat!! And get weighted keys as soon as you can. You will have weak wimpy fingers until they get the "workout" of pushing on heavy keys. But just play and learn for now. Better to have weak fingers that know what keys to press, than not know anything at all? and have weak fingers! -- Good luck, -- Joseph

The doh, ray, mi or Solfege system varies around the world with some countries using a fixed doh as C and others using moveable doh that is the tonic of the scale you start in. It's used mainly to teach sight singing. It doesn't relate well to modern chord charts and sheet music where everything is labelled with? note names. Fun in the "Sound of Music" but not very useful for beginner piano where the notes are so visually laid out before you.

If you're simply trying to say that the keys DO, in fact, have weight. NO FUCKING SHIT. If they didn't, all notes would sound all the time. If you REALLY thought that's what I was saying or even implying, you can just go right on to the grocery store and try to find yourself a brain. Any pianist can hear that from the pitch of the keys, it's weight? First, It is not possible to hear from the pitch of a note, it's weight. Very small amount of people have perfect pitch at all. I guarantee you are not one of them. Nothing is wrong w/ playing electric. Demonstrating skills on it is just ridiculous as 99.99% of them have basically no weight, making? the skills 100% easier and 0% of them are incomparable to real pianos.

Above that he is showing you which notes the chords consist of. I know how you feel. But, there are some tricks you can use if you are using MIDI. I can't play? but I know the timing I want and the emotional feel that I want. So, I ignore my ear, (which is hard to do) and I play just about any notes BUT I make SURE the notes are played as hard or as soft as I want, & I play them in the timing I want. Then I go into the piano roll and move the notes to the proper pitches, add in stuff I missed in my initial playing, then individually change the velocities.

i feel your pain dude it´s sure frustrating that we like the sounds of the piano so much but we cannot play especially when you are like me who has a music hobby in wich i spend a lot of time with i´ve been making music with daw software on a pc for about 4 or 5 months now but the fact that i can´t play the piano or my midi keyboard frustrates me because sometimes a have? like music in my head like a piano melody or something but i can´t play but this year my music lessons will begin for 60$ year

I have been searching and searching for a video like this that? can explain what to do between chords. I am just starting out reading lead sheets and you really cant tell what songs are unless I'm singing and I am trying to figure out how to put "fill ins" between chords. I've seen Chonda at 2 sold out shows in maryland in the past year and can say she has been an Amazing Minister to me. I have had Chronic Pain for many years, but have? somehow kept the Faith. When you see her now, she goes about 2.5 hrs with Comedy, has intermission and then gets personal with her Testimony & recent bought w/ Severe depression. It's often difficult for a beginner to think of chords and scales while playing even though that is the best approach. Start with the? chords first then once you've got a good grasp of them, begin soloing by breaking up those chords into individual notes but also including notes from the appropriate scale.

If you memorize the staff and read the note names? aloud in time to the beat, it really helps (you can do it whenever you have the sheet music and not need the piano). i was in band through high school playing the flute and it really helps you remember the notes to the song so that soon enough, you may not even need the sheet music, you'll just remember the notes almost like lyrics in a song

And I really love the tips, they are very good, very motivating too! :) I always put it off because I would be 'too old' (I'm only 17, lol, but I'd look at people who started at 4/5 and can play the stars of the heaven when they're my age. Not a good idea!), or it would? be 'too hard', but now I just have to stop procastinating! I love music so much, I just can't say what it does with me (emotions, yup!), and being able to make it myself has always been a grand wish of me! So why not start now!?

Thank you a lot for this video! I really, really, want to learn the piano, and I attempted it several times but never got over than 'bump'. I'm determined to stick to it now though, as each time I hear someone play... I just think "S*ht! I want that? too!" I just love music, love it in every sense, only I feel restricted by instuments, sheets, etc. only... they are necassery, just as language is necassery for communication.

I must say this is some really great advice about learning to play the piano(or any musical instrument)My only problem is the disregard for a private tutor. Piano lessons(WITH A GREAT? TEACHER) are very beneficial, especially to beginners. They're there to guide you in repertoire, practice time, posture, and encouragement. I can't say this from personal experience with piano, but I play flute and must say private lessons are some of the MOST beneficial things a beginner can do for his/herself.
