‘Caravan’ – jazz piano lesson / tutorial – using the diminished scale(s)

This is a video rendering of a midi file that I recorded quite a while ago. It is done in the usual way, with both swing and latin sections. I have made this more or less a lesson on using the diminished scale in jazz improvisation – this song is a good vehicle for using this scale as most of the song (with the exception of 4 bars) uses dominant chords. Dominant chords (especially ones with altered 9ths / 11ths /13ths) are the easiest chord types to carry diminished scales. I will place the midi file and this video on my website (free to download) www.bushgrafts.com and the transcription on my DVD (details on the website)
